more.
"I'm not sure that our
knowledge and skill will pull off a first prize again this year, but we'll give
it a try. Many thanks for arranging such a creative, fun, fundraiser, with
excellent catering. We look forward to the next one."
Scientists and historians at the Royal BC Museum are
practising their poker faces this fall, as they prepare to fib in the name of
fundraising, at Artifact or Artifiction, the RBCMs annual
black-tie soirée.
For the third year, curators and collections managers test
the balderdash-detectors of guests who attend this gala fundraiser, by
displaying 20 offbeat artifacts from the museums collections and telling
tales about the items origins. But are these learned men and women
speaking the truth? Thats up to party-goers to decide.
With grand prizes including a 12-day Holland America cruise
to a destination of the winners choice, the event also features delicious
dining, provided by Truffles Catering; beverages courtesy Summerhill Pyramid
Winery and Spinnakers Brewpub; and up to 30 door prize packages, each valued at
more than $250. Emcee for the evening is Robin Adair, chair of the Victoria
Chamber of Commerce.
This is always a fun evening, says RBCM CEO
Pauline Rafferty. Everyone is in the museum gallery, in their finery,
playing a game with fantastic prizes. But I must warn you, some of our
scientist and historians can be tricky they have been known to tell a
tall tale for this good cause.
Tickets for Artifact or Artifiction are $250
each ticket admits two guests with proceeds going toward the purchase of
specialized cold storage vaults for the museums audio-visual
collections.
Only 150 tickets are available for the gala fundraiser,
which is generously sponsored by CIBC, Truffles Catering and the Times
Colonist.
